On May 8, UNIST signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ulsan Metropolitan City Corporation to accelerate their efforts to boost the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) project.
The term MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) represents a sector of tourism, which includes business events and activities. In the memorandum of understanding, the two organizations promised to work together to support the revitalization of MICE industry in Ulsan. The aggreement includes the exchange of information related to major events, such as exhibitions, conferences, and conventions, as well as the development and implementation of joint projects.
Scheduled to open in 2021, the Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center will serve to deepen cooperation between the two organizations. Under this partnership, UNIST shall endeavor to hold large-scale conferences and major events at the convention center and the Ulsan Metropolitan City Corporation will provide related business plans and convenience, accordingly.
The Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center is currently under construction in Samnam-myeon, Ulju-gun. Located near the Ulsan KTX station, it has a high level of accessibility, and is close to UNIST. The new center comprises three floors above and a basement with a gross floor area of approximately 4,2982 square meters. It will include four exhibition halls, a convention hall, meeting rooms, and basic amenities. The center is currently operated on a consignment basis by the Ulsan Metropolitan City Corporation.
“Exchanges and cooperation are essential for the growth of science and technology,” says President Yong Hoon Lee. “Through this cooperation, I hope UNIST and Ulsan can leap forward as the center of scientific and technological exchange.”
The ceremony has been attended by President Yong Hoon Lee of UNIST, Professor Myong-In Lee (Dean of Public Relations & International Affairs), Dean Hanseog Nam of General Administration, President In Soo Sung of Ulsan Metropolitan City Corporation, and other key officials from both organizations.
