A student, affiliated with the Department of Industrial Engineering within the College of Information-Bio Convergence Engineering at UNIST distinguished himself at the 2020 Marine and Fisheries Big Data Competition.
At the competition, which took place from December 4 to 7, 2020, KyeongHo Kim (Advisor: Professor Sunghoon Lim, Department of Industrial Engineering) received the grand prize. This award has been presented to Mr. Kim for developing a marine accident prediction model, using big data.
This competition has been hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and jointly organized by UNIST, the Ulsan Port Authority (UPA), the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA), and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI). In response to the COVID-19 outbreak and in light of health and safety, it was held virtually. A total of 10 teams, including 40 individual participants, took part in the competition, this year.
KyeongHo Kim participated in Group H, which made up of DoHee Kim (University of Seoul) and ByeongCheol Choi (Korea Aerospace University). Under his leadership, the team made valuable achievements, and thus earned the grand prize (KOMSA Chairman’s Award) in the maritime transportation field, along with a prize money of KRW 2 million.
