A student, affiliated with the Department of Industrial Engineering within the College of Information-Bio Convergence Engineering at UNIST distinguished herself at the 2021 Ocean Fisheries Big Data Utilization Idea Competition.
At the competition, which took place from January 6 to 22, 2021, KwonIn Yoon (Department of Industrial Engineering, UNIST) won the grand prize. This award has been presented to Ms. Yoon for proposing a ship-arrival time prediction model based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The competition has been hosted by Ocean Fisheries Big Data Platform and Center Consortium. The consortium is being jointly participated by UNIST, the Ulsan Port Authority (UPA), the Busan Port Authority (BPA), the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) with the aim of leveraging big data for business growth in the marine and fisheries sector.
A total of 198 teams, including 300 individual participants, took part in the competition. The competition received entries in the marine and fisheries sector, including shipping, port logistics, fisheries, marine environment, maritime safety, and marine tourism.
Ms. Yoon participated as an individual and won the Grand Award (KMI President Award, 5 million KRW in prize money), the highest honor of the 2021 Ocean Fisheries Big Data Utilization Idea Competition.
