UNIST Admissions announced that they received a record number of applications for admission to the Class of 2021. When the rolling admission for 2021 ended on Monday, September 28, records showed that we reached well above our quota of 435, with a competition rate of 9.22 to 1 and 4,077 applicants.
The department that showed the highest competition rate was the school of business administration with 11.84 to 1. The school of engineering also showed a high competition rate of 9.22 to 1. The overall number of all applicants also increased by 296. Among the four S&T-centric research universities in Korea, the highest number of applications came from UNIST with 4,077.
“We are thrilled by the size of the increase in the number of applications,” says Professor Hyug Moo Kwon, Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs at UNIST. “This year, we had about 4,077 applicants from 1,000 high schools in 17 provinces and cities, nationwide.” He adds, “This is an indication that UNIST receives recognition for one of the nation’s top S&T-centric research universities.”
Those who successfully pass the admission procedure will be invited for an interview, which will be conducted virtually due to continued health and safety concerns around COVID-19. The schedules and dates for interviews will be informed once they receive the notification from the results of their document screening. The accaptance notification for the first round of admissions is scheduled on November 20, 2020.
