The BTS Industry-Friendly Research Project (IFRP) Team recently held an award ceremony to honor Team BTS-TBL for their outstanding achievement at the 2023 X-CORPS+Festival. The award presentation ceremony took place at the UNIST Haedong Faculty Lounge on February 27, 2024.
The X-CORPS+Festival serves as a platform for universities to showcase remarkable accomplishments in field-linked projects, aimed at nurturing future industry leaders. The 2023 X-CORPS+Festival was held in Daejeon last November, with 78 exceptional research teams pre-selected from 485 teams representing 14 universities nationwide. From UNIST, the top 8 teams secured their spots to participate in the festival after winning prizes at the BTS IFRP Program.

Team BTS-TBL won the prestigious Minister of Science and ICT Award for their groundbreaking work on developing artificial intelligence models and related applications for the early diagnosis of glaucoma. Led by Professor Woonggyu Jung from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNIST, the team comprised graduate students, undergraduate students, and medical students from the University of Ulsan College of Medicine.
Professor Jung emphasized the success of the team, stating, “Through a collaborative program that bridges medical and engineering disciplines, we achieved remarkable results within a short three-month preparation period.”
The members of BTS-TBL include HyeWon Cho, Chae Min Kang, Ye Eun Shin, Min Jae Lee, Hye In Cho, and Su Bin Kim. Notably, Min Jae Lee, Hye In Cho, and Su Bin Kim are first-year undergraduate students in medicine at U of U College of Medicine, participating in the BTS IFRP Program through the UNIST research club. The team had previously secured the silver prize at the 2023 U-Challenge Festival, hosted at UNIST.
cReflecting on the experience, Team Leader HyeWon Cho expressed, “The program provided a valuable platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and problem-solving, fostering critical thinking beyond academic boundaries.” She further added, “It is a program I highly recommend for those considering further academic pursuits or entering the workforce, as it encourages independent problem-solving and solution implementation.”
The award ceremony was attended by Dean Sung Youb Kim of UNIST College of Engineering, Professor Wonggyu Jung of Biomedical Engineering, and members of BTS-TBL, including Team Leader HyeWon Cho, Chae Min Kang, Min Jae Lee, and SuBin Kim.
