Professor Jaeheung Cho of the Department of Chemistry at UNIST has been honored with the prestigious Sigma-Aldrich Chemist Award by the Korean Chemical Society (KCS). The award presentation ceremony took place during the annual KCS conference, held in October 2025.
The Sigma-Aldrich Chemist Award is a distinguished accolade presented by KCS to researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of chemical research in Korea. The award recognizes exceptional scholarly creativity and research excellence.
Professor Cho was recognized for his significant achievements in fundamental chemical research, including the design of bio-inspired, environmentally friendly catalysts, elucidation of reaction mechanisms, and the development of vasodilation therapies through nitric oxide delivery. His work has garnered acclaim for its interdisciplinary impact, bridging fundamental chemistry and medical applications. Recently, he has also gained recognition internationally for his ongoing research on the spatiotemporal control of nitric oxide delivery.
Expressing his gratitude, Professor Cho stated, “This award reflects the recognition of the fundamental principles of chemistry that my research team and I have continually pursued, as well as the potential applications of these principles. We will continue to explore new frontiers in chemistry and contribute to innovative breakthroughs.”
In addition to Professor Cho’s recognition, UNIST Department of Chemistry celebrated further successes at the 2025 KCS Annual Conference, where Dr. Dohyun Kim, Dr. Joohan Nam, and Minhyeok Kim received the ‘Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Awards.’ These accomplishments underscore UNIST Chemistry’s exceptional strength in both fundamental and applied chemical research, reaffirming its position as a leading institution in the field.
