UNIST continues to be recognized as an elite engineering and science school worldwide, according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Released on September 2, the 2022 edition of THE World University Rankings assessed about 1,662 universities across 99 countries and territories. In the 2022 rankings, UNIST has risen to South Korea’s 5th best university, moving up one place from its ranking last year. Indeed, UNIST has held steady at the top of the country ranking, despite being dropped two spots to No. 178 in the global rankings this year.
The 2022 rankings revealed that Seoul National University has been named South Korea’s best university. Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) came second, while Sungkyunkwan University was third. Yonsei University came in 4th place, following UNIST. POSTECH ranked in 6th place, while Korea University placed in the 201-250 category.
In this year’s THE global rankings, UNIST scored 37.7 points in teaching: the learning environment (34.9 points in 2021), 41.1 points in research: volume, income, and reputation (40.7 points in 2021), 85.4 points in industry income: knowledge transfer (85.3 points in 2021), and 51.0 in international outlook: percentage of international staffs, students, and coauthorship (49.1 points in 2021). The rankings also indicate that UNIST, when measured based on the number of citations a university’s research obtains, has been ranked No. 2 in S. Korea.
