UNIST and the Korea Workers’ Compensation and Welfare Service (COMWEL) have joined forces to cultivate specialized talents in artificial intelligence (AI). On June 5, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Pioneers Campus within UNIST, aiming to foster industry-ready AI professionals.
This collaboration builds upon the industry-focused recruitment model recently introduced through the regional initiative of ‘AI Novatus Academia‘ in Ulsan. By engaging public institutions and large corporations, the partnership aims to expand AI talent development throughout the region.
The signing ceremony was attended by Director Namhum Kim of UNIST Pioneers Campus and Director Jin Yong Song of the COMWEL Human Resources Development Center. During the signing of MoU, they expressed their commitment to making Ulsan a hub for AI talent cultivation.
The ‘AI Novatus Academia‘ is a five-month, hands-on training program emphasizing practical experience. Participants work on project-based problems derived from real industry scenarios, gaining skills in data analysis, AI model development, and validation through experiential learning.
Under the agreement, UNIST will focus on applying AI technologies across various industries to boost productivity and customize training to meet corporate needs. Meanwhile, COMWEL plans to incorporate AI education into its annual staff training, strengthening digital capabilities to innovate public services.
UNIST President Chong Rae Park stated, “AI Novatus Academia has made tangible contributions to industrial transformation,” adding, “We will continue to encourage more organizations and companies to participate and advance AI innovation.”
