UNIST has signed a collaborative agreement with the Korea Credit Information Services (KCIS) to conduct joint research on synthetic data generation and evaluation methods in the financial sector.
The agreement was signed on June 14 at the KCIS conference room, marking the beginning of a new partnership between the two institutions. Through this collaboration, UNIST and KCIS aim to develop synthetic data and privacy protection measures to enhance the quality of financial AI research.
Professors Yongjae Lee and Saerom Park in the Department of Industrial Engineering at UNIST, two financial AI experts, will lead the research project, utilizing pseudonymized information held by the Korea Credit Information Service. The collaboration, which involves a team of researchers from both institutions, aims to create high-quality research that was previously impossible due to limited access to data.

Dean Jae-Young Sim of the College of Information and Biotechnology at UNIST emphasized, “In AI research, it is essential to have a trifecta of experts in AI, domain experts, and data. This agreement has enabled meaningful research that we could not have undertaken alone.”
Department Head Namhun Kim of Industrial Engineering and Professor Yongjae Lee commented, “With access to the data held by the Korea Credit Information Service, comprehensive analysis that was previously difficult for individual financial institutions is now possible. By combining UNIST’s AI capabilities with KCIS’s expertise, we can provide practical solutions for the financial sector.”
President Yusam Choi of KCIS noted, “The Korea Credit Information Service is like a reservoir that aggregates all credit-related data from individuals and institutions. This agreement will provide an opportunity for our organizations to create new value through data exchange and expertise sharing, contributing to the development of the financial AI field.”
In addition to their joint research efforts, UNIST and KCIS plan to establish a cooperative network for nurturing talent through student internships and recruitment programs. They also aim to expand exchanges with various institutions to develop and expand their data capabilities.
