Hae-Sang Sun, Professor in the School of Natural Sciences at UNIST has been honored to receive the 2020 Excellent Research Paper Award from the Korean Mathematial Society (KMS).
The winners were honored at the annual KMS Spring Meeting, which took place online on July 3, 2020. During the conference, KMS has announced the recipients of its 2020 Awards for Advancement of Mathematics Education, Excellent Research Paper Awards, and Excellent Dissertation Awards.
The Excellent Research Paper Award is bestowed upon the members of KMS who have greatly contributed to the development of mathematics trough publication of high quality papers that have been released over the last three years. This year, Professor Hae-Sang Sun, together with Professor Sanghoon Baek from KAIST have been named the 2020 recipient of the Excellent Research Paper Award.
This award has been presented to Professor Sun in recognition of his recent research paper, entitled “Generation of cyclotomic Hecke fields by modular L-values with cyclotomic twist,” which was published in the American Journal of Mathematics in August 2019.
In this paper, Professor Sun proved the results in support of Greenberg’s expectation, one of the unsolved challenges in mathematics, and thus is expected to contribute to research and development in related fields.
“I am deeply pleased and honored to receive this prestigious award,” says Professor Sang. “I hope to contribute to new discoveries in mathematics, and thus help provide solutions to problems that mathematics was yet to solve.”
Meanwhile, a total of 222 papers were presented at this year’s KMS Spring Meeting. Amid the coronavirus crisis, the KMS held its first online conference, since its foundation.
