UNIST has made history by becoming the first educational institution to receive a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Community. This prestigious award acknowledges UNIST’s unwavering commitment to community development and its impactful contributions to society.
During the 2024 CSR in the Community Day, on November 28 at the Dragon City Hotel in Seoul, UNIST was honored as one of the 17 exceptional organizations selected from a pool of 626 accredited institutions nationwide. This recognition underscores UNIST’s continuous dedication to social responsibility and marks a repeat commendation following last year’s award as a “community contribution recognition organization.”
The event served as a platform to highlight the importance of social values by celebrating companies and organizations that exemplify outstanding social contributions. UNIST’s proactive engagement in various community initiatives has garnered significant attention and appreciation in this regard.
UNIST has consistently focused on fostering coexistence with local communities through a diverse range of activities in education, service, and collaboration. Notably, the Leadership Center’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program provides advanced science education to middle and high school students. This initiative not only promotes scientific creativity among local youth but also contributes to national talent development in the field of science.
Unique in its approach, this program is the only high-quality convergence education camp in the country, where UNIST students take an active role in planning educational content and mentoring participants. The program has received acclaim for offering both academic rigor and practical, hands-on learning experiences.
UNIST is also dedicated to leading cooperative initiatives within the community. At Hyejinwon, a social welfare facility for individuals with severe disabilities in Ulju County, UNIST volunteers regularly engage in activities such as concerts, outing companions, and kimchi preparation, as part of their continued commitment to supporting local needs.
Dean Young-Bin Park of Public Relations & International Affairs at UNIST expressed, “This commendation marks a significant milestone in UNIST’s journey toward growing alongside our community.” He further noted, “We are committed to further enhancing our efforts and remain dedicated to fulfilling our social responsibilities.”
