UNIST and the Korea Zinc Co., Ltd. have recently joined hands to promote collaborative research efforts aimed at securing future growth engines.
On December 20, UNIST signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Onsan Refinery of Korea Zinc Co., Ltd. to promote and foster collaborative research in the areas of secondary batteries and advanced materials. The two organizations have also agreed to reinforce their cooperation, such as the joint use of research equipment and facilities, the exchange of professional personnel and academic materials, as well as the cultivation of customized manpower.
UNIST and the Korea Zinc Co., Ltd. have been carrying out various cooperative projects. Headed by the Office of University Industry Relations at UNIST, several joint industry-academia research projects have been promoted. Students also had experiential learning opportunities provided by co-operative programs. Based on these projects, the two organizations have agreed to prepare a more meaningful mutual cooperation development model.
UNIST recently received a KRW 300 million endowment from Korea Zinc Co., Ltd. On this day, a ceremony was also held in the Main Administration Building of UNIST to show appreciation for their support. This endowment will be used for the purpose of university development, including the establishment of infrastructure necessary for major key projects, promoted by UNIST.
Meanwhile, the ceremony has been attended by CEO Soon Heum Baek (Onsan Refinery, Korea Zinc Co., Ltd.), UNIST President Yong Hoon Lee, Dean Soon Yong Kwon (Office of University Industry Relations, UNIST), Dean Jin Young Kim (Office of Research Affairs, UNIST), and Director Hyeon Suk Shin (Office of Endowment Management, UNIST).
