SeungHwan Lee, a fourth-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UNIST has been honored with the prestigious 2023 Talent Award of Korea.
This award, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation (KOSAF), acknowledges young individuals who have demonstrated exceptional talents or made outstanding contributions. Its purpose is to nurture and support these individuals as key players in shaping the future society of Korea. Each year, the award is bestowed upon 100 young talents, including 50 university students and 50 high school students, who have excelled in various fields through their dedication, resilience, and creativity.
SeungHwan Lee has been honored with this award in recognition of his remarkable achievements in convergence research, combining mechanical engineering and computer engineering. As he nears graduation in February 2024, SeungHwan plans to join the lab of Professor Ilwoo Lyu in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UNIST, where he will continue his research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Throughout his undergraduate studies, SeungHwan has been engaged in convergence research, integrating AI into the realms of security, medical care, and education. His work has already yielded significant results, with research findings published in international academic societies and journals focused on medical image processing.
Expressing his gratitude, SeungHwan stated, “I believe this award acknowledges the efforts I have made throughout my entire undergraduate journey.” He extended his appreciation to Professor Ilwoo Lyu, Dean Sung Youb Kim of the College of Engineering, and Tae Hoon Chang from the Academic & Student Affairs Team, College of Engineering, for their support during the selection process. He also shows his determination to continue excelling in research even after entering graduate school, aiming to uphold the reputation and dignity of Korea in the international academic community.
The award presentation ceremony took place at Sejong Convention Center on December 27, 2023. The Prime Minister, who concurrently holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister, and the Minister of Education of Korea bestowed the award during the ceremony.
