SeoNuk Kim, a third-year student in the Department of Industrial Engineering at UNIST, has been honored with the prestigious 2024 Talent Award of Korea at the Sejong Convention Center on December 20, 2024. He received the award in the University Student & Youth category for his innovative contributions to the development of AI content creation tools and his research on usability.
The Talent Award of Korea, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation (KOSAF), aims to identify and celebrate individuals who make valuable contributions to future society through creativity and passion. Notable past winners include Yuna Kim, a highly respected figure skater.
SeoNuk Kim exemplifies interdisciplinary convergence through his double majors in Industrial Engineering and Design. His academic achievements are further highlighted by his selection as a recipient of the 2023 Presidential Science Scholarship of Korea and his publication of a research paper as the sole author at an international conference.
Currently, he is employed at an AI start-up as an Industrial Technical Personnel, where he is driving sales growth by developing an AI profile generator for companion animals. Furthermore, he actively participates in podcasts to connect and exchange ideas with fellow content creators, positioning himself at the forefront of creative market trends.
In his acceptance speech, Kim expressed heartfelt gratitude to several individuals who supported his journey. “I deeply appreciate Professor Kyungho Lee from the Department of Design, who recognized my unique identity as an aspiring cartoonist and engineer, and supported me in many ways. I would also like to thank Professor Jooyeon Kim from UNIST’s Artificial Intelligence Graduate School, Professor Chieheon Lim from the Department of Industrial Engineering, and Dean Jae-Young Sim of UNIST’s Artificial Intelligence Graduate School for their invaluable assistance in my selection as a winner.” He further remarked, “Together, we will forge new paths in the content creation market and strive to become a talent that contributes to the development of Korea.”
This year’s Talent Award of Korea recognized a total of 100 individuals, consisting of 50 high school students and 50 college students and young adults. Award recipients were also presented with the Prime Minister’s Award and the Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Education’s Award, along with scholarship certificates.
