A group of students, affiliated with the Department of Industrial Engineering at UNIST distinguished themselves at the 2020 Statistics Data Analysis/Utilization Competition.
The team, made up of KyeongBin Kim, YoonTae Hwang, and Dong-Cheol Lim, won third place in the data analysis report category. They were given a commendation from the commissioner of Statistics Korea (KOSTAT), in recognition of outstanding achievements.
The 2020 Statistics Data Analysis/Utilization Competition has been promoted to to broaden the basis of data utilization that will become the foundation of the digital economy going forward. In this competition, students were asked to provide an in-depth analysis of economic and non-economic social phenomena, policy directions, and entrepreneurship ideas, utilizing at least one of the data provided by the Statistics Korea (KOSTAT).
The three students are from Professor Junghye Lee’s Data Mining Lab and Professor Yongjae Lee’s UNIST Financial Engineering Lab. They have been carrying out research for the development of AI-based household financial health check-up model under the supervision of Professors Junghye Lee and Yongjae Lee. Their reseach is expected to help solve the severe poverty in oldage, as well as household debt crisis in Korea.
