On March 17, Young In Bae, a researcher in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at UNIST, received a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) for her significant contributions to policy enhancements during her service on the inaugural 2030 Youth Advisory Committee for the Ministry.
In her role at UNIST, Bae has played a crucial part in research administration, facilitating improved budget management and performance reporting systems. Her efforts extend to impactful policy development, including the proposal for a ‘Unified Announcement Platform‘ to consolidate information on Ministry support projects. This platform is expected to lead to an overhaul of the Ministry’s website and is slated to launch in the first half of this year.
Bae believes that successful policies must resonate with the public. She stated, “I am committed to ensuring that young people have opportunities to engage in policymaking, creating policies that resonate with them.” She is particularly enthusiastic about energy legislation, including special acts on high-level radioactive waste, offshore wind initiatives, and the expansion of power grid infrastructure.
A representative from the Ministry praised Bae’s innovative contributions, saying, “Her practical ideas have driven positive changes in policy.”
In gratitude, Bae noted, “The supportive research environment at UNIST has significant implications for policy change. I would like to express my gratitude to the professors who have supported diverse research opportunities during my time on the 2030 Youth Advisory Committee, as well as to the administrative staff for their collaboration.”
