The 2025 Ulsan World-Class University Rowing Festival will take place along the Taehwa River from August 23 to 24. Twelve prestigious universities from around the world, including Harvard, MIT, Oxford, and Tokyo University, will participate. Teams of 11 mixed-gender athletes will compete in events such as Men’s 4+, Women’s 4+, and Mixed 8+ over a 500-meter sprint course.
Building on last year’s success, the UNIST Rowing Club has refined its training regimen, engaging in early morning practices along the Taehwa River to enhance their skills and synchronization.

Last year, UNIST Rowing Club won the Women’s Four final, impressing international competitors. Team member JooWon Park (School of Business Administration), was seen taking selfies with rowers from Cambridge and MIT, exemplifying international camaraderie.
A representative from the UNIST Leadership Center stated, “Last year’s competition instilled valuable confidence in our athletes.” He further added, “This year, we are more determined than ever to showcase UNIST’s athletic excellence to the world.”
In addition to UNIST, participating universities include MIT, Harvard, Yale, Tokyo University, Oxford, Cambridge, Hamburg University, Peking University, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and the National University of Singapore. An UNIST promotional booth will also be set up at the Taehwa River venue, where preliminary heats and finals will be held.
Since being designated as a public sports club by the Korean Sports & Olympic Committee in 2021, UNIST Rowing Club has consistently participated in national athletic events and competitions, establishing a strong presence. The team also conducts rowing experience classes for the public, with over 2,000 citizens participating annually along the Taehwa River.
With preparations in full swing to compete alongside the world’s top universities, UNIST Rowing Club is poised to elevate its stature through vigorous rowing, spreading the university’s reputation beyond Ulsan to the global stage.
