UNIST has announced that its 3D Printing Convergence Technology Center has recently been awarded the Minister of Science and ICT Award at the 2022 International 3D Printing Korea Expo, which took place in Gumi city on October 13, 2022.
The center was given the honor in recognition of its contribution towards mass-producing 250 parts and providing support for scientific test and analysis to about 110 research institutes and organizations in the automotive, shipbuilding and aircraft industries. Such activities have also greatly contributed to the revitalization of the 3D printing ecosystem.
Besides, the center has not only made budget cuts, but also offered the chance to innovate solutions to challenges, faced by the technology industry today. This includes the production of assembly Jigs for automotive assembly process and the internal and external parts of compact cars, using 3D printing technology.
Since the establishment, the center has carried out over 26 expert training sessions to help cultivate about 200 experts. The center has also participated in conferences aimed at promoting 3D printing technologies both at home and abroad, and has established international networking through special seminars, inviting renowned experts from abroad to give keynote presentations. It has also contributed to the promotion and popularization of 3D printing technology by attaining more press and media coverage.
Meanwhile, the event was held to develop a greater understanding of research fronts and trends in 3D printing technology. Held under the theme of ‘Our Future Technology, 3D Printing,’ the event was hosted jointly by North Gyeongsang Province and the Gumi city, and sponsored by over 24 organizations, including the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the Cultural Heritage Administration.
