Through this, UNIST had an excellent opportunity to expose itself to the international media and those who have little or no interest in science and technology. Here is a brief summary of those inspiring stories.》
■ Prof. Joonbum Bae’s Avatar Robot Stars in a Korean Movie!
A newly-released Korean movie, entitled ‘My Bossy Girl’ depicts a sweet romance between a professional archer and a robotics engineering student who lacks in social skills. The film stars Il-joo Ji and Elijah Lee as the main characters and fellow actors JungMin Heo, GiDoo Kim, and Jinee Lee.
One remarkable aspect of the film is that the main robotic character appears in the movie, has been developed by a research robotics team, led by Professor Joonbum Bae in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at UNIST.
Professor Joonbum Bae has been recognized for his outstanding research capabilities in the fields of ‘Physical Human-Robot Interaction Systems’ and ‘Bio-inspired Robots’. In particular, Professor Bae’s humanoid robot for disaster response, also known as the AVATAR (interActive and intuitiVe control interfAce for a Tele-operAted Robot) System was awarded the Minister of the Future Creation Science and Technology Ministry (now the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information) in the ‘1st Future Growth Drive Challenge Demo Day’ in 2017.

■ Prof. Yunwoo Jeong’s EV Design Concept Featured in ‘Innovation: Fall 2019’!
A recent mobility design project, carried out by Professor Yunwoo Jeong and his design team in the Graduate School of Design and Human Engineering at UNIST has been featured in ‘Innovation: Fall 2019.’
The design concept featured in this issue is Urban, a compact size 3D printed two-seater electric vehicle (EV) for 2020. It has received global recognition for its design excellence and boundless potential, thus earned IDEA recognition in September 2019.
Innovation is a yearbook of design excellence by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). This issue is filled with vibrant images featuring the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners and featured finalists of the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2019.
In this issue, Urban was introduced as a featured finalist in the field of Automotive & Transportation. Urban was introduced as a compact two-seater electric vehicle, aimed at urban youngsters and is also affordable at only $8800.
This project was initiated by Ulsan city, in collaboration with Ulsan Technopark and TMM Co. Ltd., to advance ultra-compact EV market with the goal of mass production in 2020. As part of this endeavor, Professor Yunwoo Jeong and his design team took up positions in the design sector and came up with the innovative EV concept, namely the Urban.
