UNIST places an increasing emphasis on community service to help its students experience the personal growth and reward inherent in helping others around the corner or around the world.
On May 15, a group of UNIST students and staffs volunteered their time on some local farms, located near GongChon vilage in Bansong-ri, Eonyang-eup, Ulju-County. UNIST has been organizing this rural community outreach project every year to lend a helping hand to rural farmers during their busy season.
As the day arrived, approximately 20 UNIST students and staffs in 2 groups made their way to GongChon village with big hearts and ready smiles. For this year’s project, volunteers spent a day on the farm, carrying seedbeds of rice and removing weed plants from a pear tree field.
UNIST has been actively involved in various community engagement activities since the establishment of its sister village relatioanship with the GongChon village in Eonyang-eup, Ulju-County in November 2017. These include, lending a helping hand to its local communities during their busy season, as well as mural outreach projects.
